Portofino

Portofino is one of the symbolic places of Liguria and tourism in the Mediterranean Sea. A small fishing village of only 400 inhabitants, it is a concentration of nature, history and art. It is impossible not to fall in love with this little village built around the bay, with the sea reflecting the tall colorfully painted buildings clustered around the small harbour and the “Piazzetta” (little square).

Located in the western part of the Tigullio Gulf, the Portofino village is part of the homonymous Regional Natural Park and Marine Protected Natural Area. The mountain that dominates the village is characterized by rocky slopes overlooking the sea and is crossed by a dense network of trails that offer breathtaking views.

The settlement of Portofino dates back to Roman times: as Plinio il Vecchio (Pliny the Elder) testifies, in the Roman Empire it was known as Portus Delphini, probably due to the high number of dolphins that populated the Gulf. Portofino today represents a fascinating and exclusive holiday resort, a trendy place that since the 50s of the last century has attracted numerous international VIPs, music and Hollywood stars. The famous Piazzetta (square), symbol of holidays in the name of elegance and Dolce Vita (sweet life), has been called “historical local of Italy“.
